Walnut Hill Early Childhood Center provides child care to children between the ages of 6 weeks - 6 years old.  We have been caring for and educating children since 1968.  We operate from 5:15 am – 5:40 pm, five days a week, year round in order to accommodate the schedules of working families.  Children are served a breakfast, morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack while in our care.  Our families pay a portion of the weekly cost of care based on a sliding fee scale.

The Walnut Hill Early Childhood program was launched as a community’s response to the growing needs of its youngest residents - young children, especially children of the working poor and those with single mothers.  Local leaders and educators worked to create a program that is distinguished by affordability through a sliding fee scale, professional and educated teachers and a family involvement component.

Currently the Lead Teachers have a Bachelor’s degree in Education or an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education.  Assistant teachers have a Child Development Associate Credential, Associate’s degree or are willing to begin one of these courses of study within the first year of employment.  Weekly lesson plans are created and used based on written curriculum for preschool children.  A high value is placed on intentional play and teacher-child interactions. In 2000 Walnut Hill became accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the leading agency in the field of early childhood education.  We currently maintain this accreditation and a Level 4 on Paths To Quality.
